Rivers
Sometimes AUCC likes to visit rivers. Want to know more about the rivers we like? This page is a catalogue of the various rivers we like to paddle, and links to some of the hilarous ancedotes, photo albums and trip reports related to each rivers.
River Grading:
Each river has a grade which reflects its technical difficulty, the skill level required of the individual successfully get through all of the rapids on the river and the level of danger associated with the river.
AUCC grading works as follows:
|
Grade |
Description |
|
I |
Moving water that’s flat. |
|
II |
Fun white water |
|
III |
Adventurous white water |
|
IV |
Extreme white water |
|
V |
Hard core white water. Only for die hard veterans and crazy people. |
|
VI |
Your going to die. Period. Unrunnable. |
Club trips generally offer between kayaking between grades II-IV, and rafting from grades III-IV. Club trips do not involve grade V or VI rivers.
In addition to a technical grading, rapids are also given a mental grading, as an indication of how likely you are to be scared to death by paddling them.
